How to measure it
Fine dry breadcrumbs weigh about 108 g a cup spooned in loosely. They pour like coarse sand and need no special technique, just no packing.
Panko is a different animal. The big airy Japanese flakes weigh only about 50 g a cup, less than half the fine crumb figure, so swapping panko into a recipe by volume doubles the effective coating. Fresh breadcrumbs from soft bread land in between at about 45 to 60 g a cup depending on how fluffy the bread was.
