Using the converter

The converter, the density figures and the printable chart are free to use for cooking, baking, teaching and personal reference. You may print the chart for your own kitchen or for a class. Please do not republish the density tables wholesale as your own dataset.

Densities are averages, not guarantees

A cup is a volume and a gram is a weight, so every conversion here depends on how densely an ingredient packs. The figures used are sourced averages. Real flour varies with humidity, how it was stored and whether it was scooped or spooned, and that variation is genuinely larger than most people expect.

For baking where precision matters, weigh the ingredient. That is not us avoiding responsibility, it is the actual answer, and the page on why conversions vary explains the size of the effect.

Not dietary or medical advice

Nothing here is nutritional, dietary or medical guidance. If you are converting quantities for a medical diet, an allergy-related recipe or infant feeding, confirm the figures with a professional rather than relying on a general kitchen converter.

Cup sizes differ by country

A US cup, a metric cup and an imperial cup are not the same volume. The site states which cup each conversion uses and has a page comparing them. If a recipe does not say which cup it means, the conversion cannot know either.

No warranty

The site is provided as is. We aim for accuracy, check our sources and publish them, and we do not guarantee that every figure is correct for every brand and every condition. If you spot an error, the contact page is the fastest way to have it corrected.
