How to measure it
Standard semisweet morsels settle to about 170 g a cup, and a common 12 oz American bag holds 340 g, exactly two cups. That is why so many cookie recipes call for two cups of chips.
Shape changes the number. Mini chips pack tighter at about 180 g a cup, chunks and wafers looser at closer to 160 g. Hand-chopped bar chocolate varies with how fine you chop.
Chips in a cookie are a taste decision, not a chemistry one, so being 15 g off changes nothing but generosity.
