Fine table salt is dense at about 273 g a cup, but nobody measures salt by the cup. The reason this page exists is teaspoons: a teaspoon of table salt is about 6 g, and that is the number that matters when converting a recipe.

Crystal shape changes salt more than any other ingredient. A teaspoon of Diamond Crystal kosher salt weighs about 3 g, half the table salt figure, because the hollow flakes trap air. Following a kosher salt recipe with table salt by volume doubles the saltiness.

When a metric recipe gives salt in grams, use measuring spoons and this rule of thumb: 6 g per teaspoon of table salt, 3 g for flaky kosher.
